Start with three pins, not the hotel search area
Put the accommodation entrance, the tour meeting point and the following night on the same map. A postal address ending in Höfn can describe rural accommodation far outside the town. Do not assume a company’s office address is the place where you board.
Ask the tour seller for the exact location and required reporting time before you select the room. An activity called Jökulsárlón may meet at a lagoon reception, a nearby base or another agreed point. Transfer inclusion belongs to the exact product, not the destination name.

If you are driving east from Skaftafell, a lagoon activity followed by a Höfn overnight may avoid driving back west. If you are heading west the following day, a room nearer the lagoons may reduce repeated road travel. These are route choices, not guarantees about the fastest journey in current conditions.
Count loading, check-in and meals as well as driving. Moving rooms can save distance but adds administration and luggage handling. Two nights at one base may be useful when weather flexibility matters more than a shorter map line.
Without a car, confirm the return first
Strætó’s current regional route is 52, but a route map alone does not establish a useful connection to your activity. Compare the date-specific timetable, actual stop and walking route with reporting and expected return times. An outward connection without a return is not a completed plan.
If a transfer is arranged separately, request its total price, waiting terms and response to a delayed or cancelled excursion. Get confirmation that it reaches your accommodation rather than only Höfn town. A tour transfer and your intercity travel can have different cancellation rules.
Before paying for a room
Check the cancellation deadline against the tour’s terms. A weather cancellation of one booking does not automatically cancel the other. Ask about delayed check-in, heating, drying wet clothing, parking and breakfast. Keep a reachable contact and save arrival instructions offline.
In winter, check road and weather information before driving and leave room to shorten the day. Accommodation close to the departure helps logistics but does not make an icy road or cancelled boat operate. Choose a plan with a useful local alternative and enough margin before your next major connection.
